8th Mayor's International Bike RideEvents

Residents and families are invited to the 8th Mayors’ International Bike Ride, starting 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, beginning at the Yuma Civic Center parking lot, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.

The family-friendly ride is both an exploration and celebration of Yuma and its neighbors, with stops scheduled every 4 to 5 miles. The route is fully supported and guided by local public safety agencies.

This event is free for everyone through the generous support of community partners and businesses, and the first 400 people to register will receive a free, official event T-shirt. The bike ride is designed for bicyclists of all ages; no prior experience is necessary. However, participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian accompany them on the ride.

Mayors and elected officials from throughout Yuma County, neighboring tribes, regional cities, and San Luis Rio Colorado in Mexico will be riding with participants and encouraging riders along the way.

From the Yuma Civic Center, stops are planned at Cocopah Korner as well as Somerton, Gadsden, and San Luis. Each stop offers water, snacks, and restroom facilities. The ride will conclude with a finisher’s celebration in San Luis Rio Colorado. The finisher’s celebration will feature live music, food vendors, and medals for bicyclists.

On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Yuma Civic Center parking lot. Riders must complete a waiver to participate.

All participants should bring their own sunscreen, bicycle and helmet and proper documentation to cross the international border. Comfortable attire is recommended.

Riders are advised to bring proper documentation for their return to the United States if crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Those who choose to cross the border should travel light, limiting the use of large bags and backpacks.

YCAT will provide public transportation back to the Civic Center at the event’s conclusion. However, those wishing to travel on their own schedule should coordinate their ride home (or back to their vehicle) after the event.
